Complete walkthrough to unlock Mage class before Level 10
The most time-sensitive unlock in Excry - miss it and your account is softlocked
🚨 CRITICAL: Level 10 Deadline
You MUST have Mana Core in your inventory BEFORE reaching Level 10.
If you hit Level 10 without Mana Core, you cannot unlock Mage and your account is permanently softlocked. The only solution is character reset.
⏰ Time Management:
- • Complete Esman quest as soon as possible (Level 1-5)
- • Do NOT buy any weapons from Blacksmith Demetrius
- • Use Base Fist (empty hands) for all combat
- • Avoid grinding XP until you have Mana Core
📋 Step-by-Step Unlock Process
Find NPC Esman
Esman is located in the Starter Village, near the spawn area.
Location: Starter Village (coordinates: near central plaza)
Appearance: NPC with quest marker above head
Available: From Level 1
Complete Esman's Quest
Talk to Esman and accept his quest. The quest typically involves:
- • Collecting specific items from nearby areas
- • Defeating low-level enemies
- • Returning to Esman with quest items
💡 Pro Tip:
Use Base Fist (empty hands) for combat. Do NOT buy weapons from Blacksmith Demetrius or you'll fail the "no weapon purchase" requirement.
Receive Gold Necklace
Upon completing Esman's quest, you'll receive the Gold Necklace as a reward.
⚠️ CRITICAL DECISION:
When you receive the Gold Necklace, you have TWO options:
❌ WRONG: Sell
Selling to Blacksmith gives ~50 Nebulae but destroys your Mage path forever
✅ CORRECT: Dismantle
Dismantling gives you Arcane Scroll, which leads to Mana Core
Dismantle Gold Necklace
Go to Blacksmith Demetrius and select the Dismantle option.
How to Dismantle:
- 1. Talk to Blacksmith Demetrius
- 2. Select "Dismantle" from menu
- 3. Choose Gold Necklace from inventory
- 4. Confirm dismantling
You will receive: Arcane Scroll
Use Arcane Scroll
Open your inventory and use the Arcane Scroll.
🎲 Random Magic Skill:
Using the Arcane Scroll will randomly unlock one magic skill. The specific skill doesn't matter for Mage unlock - what matters is that you now have access to magic.
Obtain Mana Core
After using the Arcane Scroll, you will automatically receive the Mana Core in your inventory.
✅ SUCCESS!
You now have Mana Core. As long as you keep it in your inventory before Level 10, you can unlock Mage class.
Important: Do NOT sell or drop Mana Core. Keep it until you reach Level 10 and unlock Mage.
Reach Level 10 & Unlock Mage
Once you have Mana Core, you can safely level up to 10. At Level 10:
- • Open your class menu
- • Select Mage class
- • Confirm unlock (requires Mana Core in inventory)

❌ Common Mistakes to Avoid
1. Selling Gold Necklace
The 50 Nebulae you get from selling is worthless compared to losing Mage class forever. ALWAYS dismantle.
2. Buying Weapons from Blacksmith
Mage requires "no weapon purchase" record. If you buy ANY weapon from Demetrius, you fail this requirement.
3. Leveling Too Fast
Don't rush to Level 10 before completing Esman quest. Take your time and secure Mana Core first.
4. Dropping/Selling Mana Core
Once you have Mana Core, NEVER drop it or sell it. Keep it in inventory until you unlock Mage.

Q: What if I'm already Level 10 without Mana Core?
Unfortunately, your account is softlocked. The only solution is to reset your character and start over. This is why the Level 10 deadline is so critical.
Q: Can I buy weapons AFTER unlocking Mage?
Yes! Once you've unlocked Mage at Level 10, you can buy any weapons you want. The "no weapon purchase" requirement only applies BEFORE unlocking Mage.
Q: What stats should I focus on for Mage?
Prioritize Affinity (highest mana growth rate at 0.75 per point) and Psionics (unlocks advanced talents). Vitality and Agility are secondary.
Q: Can I unlock Rose class later?
Yes! Rose is an Adept class that requires Mage as prerequisite. You'll also need Fist proficiency Grade A and 2,750 Nebulae total.
